The Plains of Id: Mapping Urban
Intervention in Los Angeles

The Plains of Id: Mapping Urban Intervention in Los Angeles is an exhibition that focuses on
contemporary artists who intervene within a specific area of Los Angeles’ sprawling topography. Artists
include: Sandra de la Loza, Patrick “Pato” Hebert, Joel Tauber, and the artist collective Fallen Fruit
(David Burns, Matias Viegener and Austin Young). The title of the exhibition derives from
Reyner Banham’s seminal book, Los Angeles: The Architecture of Four Ecologies (1971). One of the
first scholars to consider the cultural significance of the city, Banham analyzed Los Angeles’ urbanism
and categorized the most distinctive part of the city as the “Plains of Id”.

Gallery Show/Sam Davis

Frank & Katrina Basile Gallery

Sam Davis will be having a show at the
Frank and Katrina Basile Gallery
Herron School of Art + Design
IUPUI
Indianapolis, IN till the end of March.

Sam Davis’s art making revolves around sci-fi and retro themes. You’ll find iron rockets, lost astronauts,
robots, and glowing UFOs in his work. His photography feels unique and a bit strange, but is always
beautiful. Using an old school panoramic medium format camera, Sam creates scenes that wouldn’t have
been out of place in a Heinlein or Asimov novel in the 50s.
